I felt compelled to join the debate on nuclear power that was sparked today by the GreenPeace demonstration at the speech by Tony Blair our Prime Minister, who was speeking at a CBI business conference. The P.M highlighted the need for a debate on a new generation of nuclear power stations to replace the stations due to be decommisioned soon. Currently nuclear power comprises a third of our current power generation & unless the lights are to go out we need to replace the current stations. Readers of my site will know of my interest in energy independance, & therefore I support the building of new reactors on the existing sites. I know this is unpopular with many people, but I can see no other viable way of reducing our carbon & CO2 emissions which are causing global warming. I believe we should maximise use of renewable energy, & invest in clean coal, carbon sequestration technology. The cost of new stations is high but in these uncertain times we need energy security.
