Nuclear to go ?

Calder Hall Britain's first nuclear power station

I felt compelled to join the debate on nuclear power that was sparked today by the GreenPeace demonstration at the speech by Tony Blair our Prime Minister, who was speeking at a CBI business conference. The P.M highlighted the need for a debate on a new generation of nuclear power stations to replace the stations due to be decommisioned soon.

UK Nuclear Power Stations (BBC)

Currently nuclear power comprises a third of our current power generation & unless the lights are to go out we need to replace the current stations. Readers of my site will know of my interest in energy independance, & therefore I support the building of new reactors on the existing sites. I know this is unpopular with many people, but I can see no other viable way of reducing our carbon & CO2 emissions which are causing global warming.

I believe we should maximise use of renewable energy, & invest in clean coal, carbon sequestration technology. The cost of new stations is high but in these uncertain times we need energy security.

Hi Charlie!

Ah! you are trying the Comment moderation..let me know how you like it...if its a inconvenience worth pursuing or not.

Ironic that you would be talking about alternate energy resources. On the news last night is a guy that wants to put in a Wind Farm in the ocean off of Nantucket Sound. Wow, what a controversy. Of course, the Fishermen are against it, saying that they will destroy prime fishing grounds, therefore, their lively hood. Of course, then it come to light that the guy wants to put it in an area that just, JUST squeaks by in international waters or some such thing..anyway..it would allow him to do so. Can get everything they say on the news sometimes. goes too fast. Anyway...I think its a great alternative. The only "oil" that they were in an uproar about was the Mineral Oil used to lube the ...well, I'm not too sure about the mechanical parts, but come on,Mineral Oil? That's used in makeup and food and all kinds of stuff. I certainly can't prime my bread baking wooden board with petroleum oil but I CAN with mineral oil.. Geesh..can't a great, eco-friendly idea ever come to pass without greedy SOB's blocking it because it impedes their race to extreme riches???

So, I'm glad to hear about alternative, environmentally safter options. Greenpeace is a little...extreme..but their heart is good. I think.

Anyway..hope all is well.
Loved the snow pics. We had our first snow on Thanksgiving, so we had to drive in it to get to our celebrations. It was pretty..but a little too early for my taste.

Have a great day!!!!!

Hi Charlie!
Just heard about that explosion in your country...a depot or something. At this point, they don't know the cause or any details. Hope your abode is no where close to where this is going on.
Take care!!!!!
