Oil lifeline or liability ?

It is a strange conundrum, our western civilisation depends on oil, for it's very lifeblood. Our just in time delivery system, provides us with everything we take for granted as part of our day to day life.

But what most people don't realise is that 'just in time delivery' means that all the supermarkets, 7-11 late shops, no longer hold more than a days worth of stock. Night workers stock shelves, in retail for the next days sales.

What this means for those uninformed is that in the absence of diesel, to run the articulated transport that supplies all these establishments, shelves run dry within 12 hours.

Given an emergency, in the middle east, which supplies most of our crude oil, which is refined to produce diesel, petrol etc 'food is not availiable'.

Anyone who doubts this analysis has only to remember the strike of fuel tanker drivers which lead to 'panic food & fuel buying' among the general public'.

We must re-balance our agro-industrial complex, into more balanced non artificial production, if we are to ever to hope to become self sustaining in this country.

We have to break our overweening dependence on foreign imported oil, for if we do not the path to disaster cannot be far away.....

I found an interesting series of two radio programs on the subject of oil from the World Service the links are below...
